Kilnman’s Cottage is situated on the outskirts of Pierowall village on the island of Westray. From the ferry terminal at Rapness, follow the signs to Pierowall (about 7 miles). After the sharp left bend as you come into Pierowall Bay, look out for the sign to Kilnman cottage on the left just after the small bridge. Turn left, and follow the road and then take the left fork on to the drive towards the mill buildings. Kilnman cottage is on the right about 100 yds from the main road. There is a local bus service from the ferry terminal to Pierowall, please book in advance. For those arriving by air a local taxi service is available from the airfield.

The island of Westray is part of the Orkney Islands group, situated off the north coast of mainland Scotland. From mainland Britain, the Orkney Islands and Westray can be reached by car, using the ferries from mainland Scotland (Northlink and Pentland Ferries), and the inter-island Orkney Ferries. Westray is also accessible by air (flights to Kirkwall from Inverness and Edinburgh, then on to Westray using Loganair). A longer sea crossing to Kirkwall is available from Aberdeen (vehicle ferry), which saves some 200 miles of driving for those coming up from the south. For those arriving from northern Europe, it is possible to take the vehicle ferry from IJmuiden to Newcastle, which is about 235 miles south of Aberdeen, 380 miles south of John O’Groats.
